General Basketball Signups & Assessments will be held September 15th
Those players wishig to play on a Thunderbird recreational team are invited to pre-register using our on-line signups from August 1st until In-Person Sign-ups and Assesments on Saturday, September 15th. Location and times will be provided as soon as they are avalable..
THUNDERBIRD teams make up 90% of the TBird teams and are considered very competitive basketball teams. These teams usually play in the CPYBL and High Rec and Rec divisions. The signup fee is $145, covering 1 practice per week, a 10 game season and a post season tournament. Teams will be formed for Boys in grades 1,2 (in-house league) and 3-12 (playing in CYPBL), and for Girls in grades 1,2 (in-house league) and 3-12 (playing in CYPBL). When signing up for a Thunderbird team, do NOT choose the "SELECT" option. For example, for the boys 5th grade Thunderbird team, choose "Boys - Grade 5".
Please note. B1-2 and G1-2 divisions are in-house leagues, intended to expose starting players to basketball with rules that are very forgiving at the start of the season, and get progressively more "real" as the season progresses. By the end of the season, the children are playing real basketball. We have specially trained referees for these divisions who conduct the progressive officiating for our program.
1. If you have played on a THUNDERBIRD team last year, and know you will be returning to the same team this year, you are not required to attend the in-person assessment on September 15th, just sign up on line. However, you are encouraged to come to assessments to verify your unifirm size.
2. If you are new to the TBird organization OR do not plan to play for the same coach this year, you are strongly encouraged to attend the in-person assessments on September 15th in order to get proper uniform sizing, to participate in a short gym skills assessment (3 different stations), and get any questions you have answered. You still need to register on-line prior to assessments.
3. If you are NOT trying out for the Flight Select program, you do NOT have to attend the August 19th and 26th tryout sessions. Only consider attending the September 15th session.

Congratulations to Our 2017-18 Teams
Congratulation to all our 103 teams for another great season. We had 10 division winners, and 19 division runners-up. We also had 16 tournament winners and 12 tornament runners up.
TBird girls in grades 1-2 have 4 teams which practice and play in a unique format. All 4 teams practice and scrimmage together in a pickup format during the week. In January, they formed teams and started to play "for real". Girls for all 4 teams are shown here at the LW Girls game on 1/31 where they scrimmaged at halftime and got to meet the varsity players. (Kelly Pate Coordinator)
Boys 1st and 2nd grade teams scrimmage at 1/26 LE Boys basketball game and meet the players. These are our future Lakota stars. (Coaches Fred Bontrager & Mike Goldman)
Bird Night at Lakota West vs Lakota East Boys, 12/15. Flight 3rd grade boys playing at halftime. TBird players who wore their jerseys got in free to the game and got free refreshements at halftime. We had 45 TBirds at the game.
In 2017-18, we formed 103 teams in grades 1-12 -- a new record for the TBird organization. THANK YOU for all the volunteers who stepped up to coach. Without you, we would have had to turn away players. The TBird board and division coordinators also did a great job getting us organized and forming teams to get the season rolling. Always a very a challenging task.
FYI. The 2017-18 Pre-season Coaches meeting was held on Tuesday 9/12. The meeting presentation is HERE.
