CODE OF CONDUCT – If you have not already done this, all head coaches must go online at www.cpybl.com and login to your coach account. The online Code of Conduct needs to be completed TODAY. You cannot coach your team until this is completed.
LIABILITY WAIVERS: CPYBL requires a parent/guardian for each player on your roster to complete a Liability Waiver. This needs to be done before your first game. Several teams have players who have not completed the waiver. You were sent an email on November 29 with a list of players still needing a waiver. Please send an email to your parents instructing them to complete the waiver. Here is the link to the Liability Waiver: https://www.cpybl.com/liability-waiver-header. I will be auditing teams tonight and tomorrow. An updated email will be sent to each coach who has players needing waivers. REMINDER: Players without a waiver are not able to play games until the waiver is completed AND linked to your roster. Any player caught playing without a waiver will be suspended for the remainder of the season and their coach will be suspended 2 games. Please take a phone or tablet to practice and have the parents complete the waiver. Your printable roster from the CPYBL website will not list any player who has not completed the waiver.
JERSEY NUMBERS: Rosters have been uploaded to the CPYBL website. Jersey numbers need to be added to your roster as soon as possible. You have 2 choices to get this done: 1) login in to your coach account and enter the jersey numbers; or 2) send the player names and jersey numbers to me and I will add them to your roster.
UNIFORMS GRADES 7 – 12: Uniforms will be available for pickup on Tuesday, December 3 from 6:30-9:30 p.m.. Pickup is at Joe Mills’ house: 4794 Willow View Ct., Liberty Twp., 45011.
CONCUSSION TRAINING: If you have not already done so, all coaches must complete an online concussion training course every 3 years. Links to the training can be found under the Coaching tab at www.tbirdhoops.org. Please forward your certificate of completion to me.
REFEREE FEES: One coach from each team in every game is responsible for paying one referee $30. You will be reimbursed for the referee fees for each regular season game + the post season tournament if you return your equipment at the completion of the season.
REFEREES: Just a reminder that you are NOT to approach a referee after the game. If you do, it is an automatic 2 game suspension.
GYM MONITORS(New for 2019-20 Season): You were given 2 gym monitor badges with instructions when you received your equipment. League rules require a gym monitor at every HOME game. Please select a parent to be the gym monitor. They need to sit away from your parents. They are there to keep the peace. They are NOT to approach people in the stands or try to remove anyone from the gym. The most the gym monitor should say is: “Please calm down and cheer for your team. We do not want to have to ask you to leave the gym.” If people do not cooperate and get out of control, CALL 911. Our organization has decided to try this approach. Alternatives include having parents be a gym monitor at the game before or after your game which requires more of their time OR hire off-duty officers which would require a more than nominal increase in fees.
SCOREBOOK AND CLOCK: You will need a parent to keep the scorebook at every game. This must be done at the scorer’s table. You will also need someone to run the clock at every HOME game. Keep in mind the individuals running the clock and keeping the book are NEUTRAL parties and are not be coaching or making any comments about the game from the table. Exception: notifying the coach about remaining timeouts or any players in foul trouble.
RULES: The rules can found on the CPYBL home page. Please look at the sections for your age group for playing time; defense; pressing; etc. Read the rules. Read the rules. Read the rules. You may want to print a copy, highlight the sections that apply to you, and carry them with you at games.
GAMES: Do not forget to report your game score each week. Winning team should report the score, but any team can report the score. Instructions can be found in your Coaches Portal, https://www.cpybl.com/coaches
BEHAVIOR: Lakota Thunderbirds and Flight have an excellent reputation around the league for having competitive teams, great coaches, players, and spectators. This is due to our coaches and the examples they set during practices and games. We want to continue that tradition this season. Please continue to remember that you are setting an example to your players with your sideline behavior. Your tone will also set the tone for the spectators. Remember that an ejection from a game for a coach results at a minimum a 1 game suspension. Spectators and players can also be ejected from games. Players associated with any spectator or coach ejection can also result in the same suspension for the player associated with the spectator or coach.
Thanks again for coaching. Good luck to all teams on a great season.
